Back to the future

January 26 - 31, 2015:

The trip back to Tucson with a plane change in Dallas went smoothly arriving in Tucson around midnight.  Flying is not much fun anymore, glad to get back on the ground !  It seems like I've been gone a long time, now to get back into the minimalistic RV frame of mind.  Time now to get serious about RV planning and a few repair and maintenance items.  This next month is going to be pretty busy.

I bought these at the Dallas airport, those are
the  most sorry looking Cow patties I ever saw

We visit the Pima Air and Space Museum on Tuesday, it's the third largest air museum in the country and does it without national or state funding, lots of volunteers.  They have several large hangers packed with stuff and acres and acres of airplanes outside with an excellent narrated tram ride around the facility.  I believe I will have to return to see it all. Lots of aviation buffs and aging retired military guys walking around. We took the tram ride, the driver and tour guide was great, he was a retired air force major who flew F-16 fighter jets.  It is a most interesting museum.

could play sound effects of the helicopter

On the local music scene, Wednesday night it's a return to La Cocina for Lana Rebel and Kevin Mayfield for their usual eclectic mix of songs, always entertaining.  Then on Thursday a show at the "Flycatcher" which used to be the "Plush", still the same, except the new sign with the Flycatcher bird is much more appealing.  The show was Dave and Phil Alvin and the Guilty Ones band.  The place was packed with a distinctively older crowd.  They obviously were a Tucson favorite in days past and everyone was out to see them again.  They are brothers who have recently reunited on a joint CD celebrating the music of Big Bill Broonzy.  They were freak'n great, one of the best concerts I have ever attended, great vocals, great guitar playing, great stage banter, song intro's, stories and the interaction of these brothers was almost magical. The combination of Phil Alvin's booming, amazingly clear and strong voice and Dave's great stage presence and guitar playing was incredible. The woman playing the drums was pretty awesome too !

The huge Gem and Mineral Show starts this weekend in Tucson, Twinkles is getting ready to shop !

We went to see the movie "Wild" on Sunday about Cheryl Strayed who hiked the Pacific Crest Trail in the early 1990's.  I read her popular book, Wild, that the movie is based on with mixed feelings. On one hand she was an idiot, mostly out of control and totally unprepared for the hike making it a somewhat unbelievable story.  On the other hand, it was a compelling, inspirational story of perseverance and accomplishment over multiple obstacles.  A really good movie, gave me teary eyes in many places !

Next on my reading list is "How we got to now" lot's of amazing stuff, I sometimes wonder how I got to now ?

So much rain Thursday night, Friday and Saturday, we've never seen it this cloudy and wet. I think everyone here is just hunkered down waiting for the Super Bowl.  Sorry Washington fans !

Sunny, warm days ahead,
Twinkles and Slick
